As of January 1, 2004, licensed professional engineers renewing registration of a license on or after January 1, 2005 are required to complete continuing education requirements.

If your registration is due for renewal before January 1, 2007, the number of contact hours you will be required to complete will vary, but will not exceed 36 hours for professional engineers.

If your registration is due for renewal on and after January 1, 2007, professional engineers will be required to complete 36 contact hours of continuing education in each three-year registration period.

Of the 36 contact hours or Professional Development Hours (PDH) required by the New York State Education Department (NYSED), 18 must be in an interactive classroom setting. This can be accomplished by attending an in class seminar or enrolling in a video conference lecture (e.g. a Webinar). Note, all of your continuing education requirements can be satisfied by attending by attending seminars in an interactive setting. If an individual prefers to obtain PDH by alternative means (e.g using on-line seminars), you are urged to contact the NYSED to determine if such seminars are approved.

Architects please be aware that Architects require 24 C.E.U. / L.U. in Health, Safety and Welfare (HWS) to complete their License renewal process.
